I will say, if it has ever been used, there sure isn't any evidence of wood scratches on it.

The places you might can see inside on a picture is where the claw feet are attached, not bent places. Calling it a medical mystery now.

The color is not brass, but more like a bronze. It has very detailed claw feet. You are looking at a very nice fireplace Hearth log holder or carrier with a handle.
